Wedding Flowers 101, Part 1: Where do I even start with planning my wedding flowers?

Hooray! You’ve made it to what I personally think is the most fun part of wedding planning, besides wearing beautiful dresses…the flowers!

Welcome! Truly, I’m glad you are here and I hope I can help make your wedding floral to-do’s so much more enjoyable.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you’ve probably never planned a wedding before.

That’s ok! I hope you feel like this is a welcoming place where you won’t be judged. I want to make sure you feel completely at ease and empowered when making decisions concerning your wedding flowers.

From my experience, the easiest place to start from is asking one simple question:

How do you want your flowers to make you feel?

Bear with me, that sounds super cheesy, but I promise this is the number one key to getting wedding flowers that light you up with joy!

Because if you know what you want to feel, every single other thing about your wedding flowers falls into place

Do you want your flowers to feel romantic and ruffly, tropical and breezy? (choose a florist whose specialty style is the same)

Do you want your flowers to feel dramatic and lush so you’re safe from all those eyeballs as you walk down the aisle? (choose a florist who specializes in putting effort into dramatic feature florals. Opt for larger items rather than more items.)

Do you want to feel at peace that your flowers are designed with local ecology in mind? (Ask your florist where they source their flowers from and what measures they take to increase environmental sustainability and decrease waste.)

Do you want your reception to feel like you’re dining al fresco in a decadent flower garden paradise? (Choose a florist who can design arrangements that mimic the organic style of textures and stem-heights and variety that mimic a beautiful garden.)

Do you want to feel relieved that you didn’t overspend your budget? And confident that your florist will get you the most bang for your buck? (Check if your florist is transparent about how they do things and enjoys providing tools and resources to help their clients succeed.)

If you can keep that desire in mind as you skim through the information I’m arming you with, not only will you be able to get through planning your wedding florals as fast as lightning, but you’ll feel like you just aced an open-book test.

Step #1 to being so, so happy with your wedding flowers is knowing what would make you feel happy.

Regardless of what your budget is or how many people you have telling you how to plan your wedding flowers, only you can decide how you want to feel.

And then you just need a friendly farmer-florist to pass along their expertise so you know how to make those dreams come true 😉

When you’re ready, hop over to Part 2 of this blog series —>

Wishing you a joyful wedding filled with fresh flowers,

Sara
