Opus varieties: this is a new-to-us variety! Meaning we are growing this one for the first time this season. I’ve heard good things, so I hope you are as excited as I am about this one!
Orange Wonder: Now, this is a throwback. I haven’t grown this variety called Orange Wonder in years. The last time I grew it, it put out a last flush in late Fall and then the plants grew over 4 feet tall into January. The first flush had amazingly long stems and crazy-vibrant blooms that looked like a neon sunset. I can’t wait to grow it again! I had it in partial afternoon shade last time, so I might try growing half in those conditions and half in full sun to see if there’s a difference. If you grow this one, send me your field notes! Pictured is a stock photo because it’s been so long since I’ve grown these I don’t even know what phone they were on.
Cherry Bronze: this is a new-to-us shade! Meaning we are growing this one for the first time this year. I’m assuming it performs very similarly to the rest of the Madame Butterflies.
Special Notes: Snapdragon varieties are sensitive to daylength/night temperatures and some will bloom at different times in the season because of this. For blooms all season long, it’s preferable to select snapdragons from as many of the four Groups as possible. For our Early Spring Plant Sale, only Group 3 and 4 snapdragons are available since they flower under long days.
These varieties are all listed as hardy in our zone 7B and will benefit from lightweight row cover to protect from wind.
